Bollards and I were heading to the wrong venue, despite me adding a link to the correct venue on to the hash diary. Extremely luckily we choose a route that took us past the correct car park, and Bollards said "that looks like Sorepoint over there, what's she doing here?"!</div><div><br></div><div>After Spocky hash introduced the hash, we heard from the hares that it was 5 miles on the longs - which apparently is long for Taunton! The trail initially took us along the edges of the woods towards the holiday park, then a long stretch along some shiggy paths. Wide asked me how my bum was. When I queried what he meant, he said "after last week"!&nbsp; Funny, I thought, can't remember any "bum action", then remembered the steep drop on his trail where I'd bounced!&nbsp; Mad Max decided to lie down, or had he face planted the ground? He didn't get much sympathy anyway!! The long stretch had obviously got Belltoll's insides moving as he was trupeting nicely as he ran after of me!&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Then we arrived at the sweetie stop. I'm not sure that everyone has arrived by time the hash flash was taken, but the sweets were a great classic selection of babies, all-sorts and pastilles!&nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>We were now back on the road by the holiday park beyond the starting point, with the second half of the trail taking us on a loop around some of the airfield. Then back through Rhodedendrum Wood and back home.</div><div><br></div><div>In the circle, Sorepoint had brought along cheesy feet and Paperwork had made mulled cider. Spocky led the circle and despite Wide's bum question, and Max's fall, he got voted for the down-down himself for getting in a fight with a huge Badger that Boots fought off. Or it might have been a bramble that scratched his nose.</div><div><br></div><div>On on to next week where we're at Warren Car park on the Common. Please don't forget to <a href="https://cityofexeterhhh.blogspot.com/p/rate-hash_3.html?m=1">Rate the Hash</a>.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>And finally, if you've not laid a trail during the last couple of months, please volunteer. We need everyone to lay at least 3 or 4 trails per year (and of you jointly lay, that only counts as half!!). Please help spread the load so that it's a bit more even than last year! Please contact Tight with the dates you can lay.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi84XxiXqvHMDpiQrF2M36fO0wHgD9lPeCd4hjQ8al_KSxMpsAd3aVXd97G_MkD0y--ir7SFk1nqAcgIAnoqn3z8TkU7NuXzkW9-7u2495VSls6ylcqtAsv7ru65DQi6fRZ6qHKiUC89cTyldQHfz-u2YsgvJmK3Fh8BpfVDMW1-QflHdH3JAs4oVFY" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi84XxiXqvHMDpiQrF2M36fO0wHgD9lPeCd4hjQ8al_KSxMpsAd3aVXd97G_MkD0y--ir7SFk1nqAcgIAnoqn3z8TkU7NuXzkW9-7u2495VSls6ylcqtAsv7ru65DQi6fRZ6qHKiUC89cTyldQHfz-u2YsgvJmK3Fh8BpfVDMW1-QflHdH3JAs4oVFY" width="400"> </a></div><br></div>Alastair Hibbinshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11262741661505290421noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873293245506806577.post-91505979920620803652022-01-16T16:45:00.001+00:002022-01-16T16:45:38.640+00:00#1034 Route 5 Haldon Hill - Wide Receiver - 16th Jan 2022<div>For the third trail of the year we had our best 2022 turnout, with nearly 30 hashers gathering in the car park. We had virgin 'Pete', who's been stalking us on Facebook for over a year, and we welcomed back the D's after what must be at least a couple of years.&nbsp; The hare raiser's clip board was also back... More on that later!</div><div><br></div><div>Spocky opened the circle with his usual charm, and as always, we struggled o remember the r*n number: "one more than last week" is not a useful contribution to the discussion! Having decided it was #1034, it was over to the hare who told us the trail was "about an hour". Details rather lacking because he left his watch at home. He described it as a 'technical' trail, which is always a worry...</div><div><br></div><div>We set off along the track in the usual way, past&nbsp; the transmitter, and rather unexpectedly, we crossed the road. It took us a while to find the trail, but soon we were into mountain biking territory. A long short split took the longs on a route that finished in a very steep drop, where Itzy-bitz managed the most elegant decent, while I demonstrated the worst (and have the scratches to prove it).</div><div><br></div><div>We continued back on the main trail before another split, where we find a back check. As we back tracked, I thought I had done a great job finding a small dot in the hedge row, and Happy Snapper encouraged us all to keep going up as there can be no other way to go. Typical Wide trail I thought as we fought our way through the brambles up the slope.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Unfortunately the dot I'd been so proud to spot was a patch of mould.&nbsp; So eventually we looped back and heard Wide calling, directing us to the correct route and over an enormous slippery trunk. Again this was a point where some of us excelled in l strength and flexibility to mount the wooden obstacle. I was not one of them, and even Bollards needed a hand to get her leg over.</div><div><br></div><div>Soon we were at the regroup, and some fantastic lighting and greenery as the sun began to sparkle. And then onwards and upwards, for another slippery bank, where XBitz had a fight with a bramble, but it's OK, she exclaimed "I'm used to small pricks"!</div><div><br></div><div>This took us back towards home, and another long split (Bollards did it twice!). Back along the road towards, finishing of with a lovely fish hook!</div><div><br></div><div>Great trail by Wide, but be sure to Rate the Hash&nbsp;<a href="https://cityofexeterhhh.blogspot.com/p/rate-hash_3.html">https://cityofexeterhhh.blogspot.com/p/rate-hash_3.html</a>.&nbsp; For some reason that I can't remember, I had this week's down down, which want a parade experience. Don't know what I could have done wrong...</div><div><br></div><div>Then Tight was out with her clipboard, but only found one potential hare. PLEASE volunteer to lay a trail so that the effort gets spread around a bit more than last year!!</div><div><br></div><div>Next week we're at Blackborough Woods, for a trail from Sore Point and Paperwork. I was given the alternative of writing the words or making chocolate brownie, and I couldn’t be bothered to stand in the kitchen. Also. I am, undoubtedly, the hardest person in this house. Fact. Despite feeling like I’ve been repeatedly kicked in the ribs, I valiantly made the effort to get up this morning to be Speedy’s sidekick. It should have been Rocky, but he didn’t feel like it and Stix was pretending that he didn’t have a hangover.</p><p class="MsoNormal">I have very little memory of laying the trail. I had to concentrate quite hard on breathing but Speedy had mapped out the route extremely carefully and made the correct decision in not giving me the map. I think the short went something like this: park, Topsham Road, uphill, onto muddy track, up field to a regroup/view spot. Apparently, prior to this, Blobby had committed his down-down worthy misdemeanour of calling on to sweetie stop when it wasn’t. He was mislead by multiple S/S marks (in spray paint) probably denoting the route of the sewer pipe.</p><p class="MsoNormal">After the regroup: muddy, slippery downhill, another long/short split then the proper sweetie stop. Speedy provided some top class confectionary including (but not limited to) sour skittles and some vegan approved candy kittens. Even the sweets that he didn’t think were vegan, were vegan. Brand names and everything. Decent. (Remember this when rating the hash).</p><p class="MsoNormal">After the regroup it went something like: Topsham Road, crem (hi dad!), long/short split, path along river, flood barrier, tree house, On Home. The longs went a bit further. I don’t know where, but in total they did something like 9K.</p><p class="MsoNormal">In the circle, we all racked our brains to remember where next week’s trail was before looking it up on the internet and realising that there wasn’t actually a trail planned. Wide decided (with no consultation with Tight) that he would lay next Sunday’s trail from Route 5 – at the top of Haldon Hill. Probably. Or maybe somewhere else.</p><p class="MsoNormal">Don’t forget to Rate the Hash <a href="https://cityofexeterhhh.blogspot.com/p/rate-hash_3.html">https://cityofexeterhhh.blogspot.com/p/rate-hash_3.html</a></p><p class="MsoNormal"><br></p><p class="MsoNormal"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-HuXt0CyoMfc/YdsrTA2jD9I/AAAAAAAAkOg/ujYoG5GhzMsknTghM1FHsayzl8XyTw5NQCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1641753419717458-0.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-HuXt0CyoMfc/YdsrTA2jD9I/AAAAAAAAkOg/ujYoG5GhzMsknTghM1FHsayzl8XyTw5NQCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1641753419717458-0.png" width="400"> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Ygfd9sM9ZXU/YdsrSdrTP3I/AAAAAAAAkOc/35ZqoL9yPCg5uPrsMY-cTYTwyJttqXnjACNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1641753416935580-1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Ygfd9sM9ZXU/YdsrSdrTP3I/AAAAAAAAkOc/35ZqoL9yPCg5uPrsMY-cTYTwyJttqXnjACNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1641753416935580-1.png" width="400"> </a></div><br></p>Alastair Hibbinshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11262741661505290421noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873293245506806577.post-2875464609961547282022-01-02T13:28:00.001+00:002022-01-02T13:28:57.505+00:00#1032 Prickly Pear Blossoms Park and Rec Ground - Spocky - 2 Jan 2022<p class="MsoNormal">Words by Speedy.</p><p class="MsoNormal">This week’s trail was laid by Spocky, in a forest somewhere in Europe, UK, England, Devon, Exeter near the A30, the run number was 408 (in base 16). We started the trail and Wide immediately fell over what appeared to be thin air, but later turned out to be an iron pole sticking out of the ground, he didn’t cry though so its ok. Long short split time and the longs had a loop back to the car park, followed by another long, short split before Spocky took us all the wrong way at a check, even though its his own trail. To our relief we got to the sweet stop where we learned that this piece of land we where running on was the first ever piece of land given to the national trust in 1906 which was 103 years before Michel Jackson died. At the sweet stop Son Of The Bits said “I don’t like the long hard ones,” Stix then said “oh that’s funny that’s just how Bollards likes it”, to which Speedy murmured “she will never get it though”. Eventually we got to the final long short split which lead us back to some old trail and back to the car park. A down down went to Wide for falling over. Speedy pored the drink so it was nice and foamy, wide blew it off at him, but Speedy topped it up. Personally was my favourite trail so far this year.</p><p class="MsoNormal">Next weeks trail is laid by Speedy at King George V playing fields, LOWER car park off Countess Wear Road (not the one off Topsham Road): look forward to seeing everyone again.</p><p class="MsoNormal">Map here: <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/AriTgZ72hGaLcGyc8">https://maps.app.goo.gl/AriTgZ72hGaLcGyc8</a></p><p class="MsoNormal">A reminder that subs are now due and a request to update your contact details. But no Dark Lord (and Humpty) and no Oddbitz, both running (very) late! Bollards had set a trail around the village, with enough "long short walk" splits to keep everyone happy. I was happy taking whichever group got to the beer stop first!<div><br></div><div>&nbsp;The trail went down on to Crockwells Meadow, then a loop around the houses before going up post the church on to the main road. Then another loop around the houses, and quite a long one at that if you were doing the long. Meanwhile I opted to get in front and walk along the main road to meet the front runners. But soon I heard heavy footsteps behind me. It was Zoot!&nbsp; I shouted "I don't think it's this way... I haven't been looking but I've not seen any marks". I didn't feel that bad sending her back! Then I texted Oddbitz and Dark Lord to see where they were.<div><br></div><div>Zoot was back leading the front runners when I next saw her at the bottom of Devington Drive, and guided everyone to the beer stop, although Sorepoint seemed to know exactly where she was going!</div><div><br></div><div>Beers, mince pies, ginger bread men, mulled wine, sweets, smoke machine (Wide didn't appreciate that!), Festive tubes and Pina colada at Exminster's premier bar "The Glory Hole".&nbsp; Before we returned to Exminster's second best bar, the Royal Oak for Christine lunch and awards.</div><div><br></div><div>At this point Dark Lord appeared, probably after a heavy night last night. And then Oddbitz appeared at the bar, claiming he'd done the whole trail!!</div><div><br></div><div>Bollards and Hotlips got down downs for birthdays, and Twisted Tart did a good job of exciting her table by going down (underneath). Well done to all the awards winners too, Tight for Hash Hospitality, Spocky and me for Most Laid, Bollards for Trail of the Year, Tampa for Old Git of the year, and Spocky gave me the GM's Special Prize (and it's feels great to be appreciated!!). There were some extra wooden spoons (actually bags of flour) for those who'll need it in 2022 to lay trails!!</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks to Spocky as our GM for leading us through 2021, including looking after the 1000th trail and the Autumn Gathering of course, all under the shadow and added complexities of COVID.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>There's&nbsp; one more trail this year, from Joneys Cross, Woodbury Common on Boxing Day, laid by Tampa.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2SOk9dbLzCI/YcBe6hSq9PI/AAAAAAAAj2c/oNyJbd7kE6M_HBTh8bkr0MRo5T3JEwMkwCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1639997162257785-0.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; It was good to see Twisted Tart and Ménage, who both live in the village. No Bitz family though... They were running late. So Wide, as hare, gathered us together. He promised 5 miles for the longs and 3 for the shorts, with 7 (!) long shorts, and a hint that there may be hills involved.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>The trail started with a little long-short, but soon we started an almighty climb through the woods. Then along a lane, another long short around a field, and then we followed backwards some of the trail we did with Coatcheck a few weeks earlier.&nbsp; Then the sweetie stop, where the Bitz's appeared, apparently they couldn't find the car park! We took the hash flash with Bollards showing off her better side.</div><div><br></div><div>Then down and down the field, with a fishhook at the bottom, and a lot of mathematical discussion "what is the square root of i" and "what is π". Speedy seemed to think that the louder he gave an answer, the more correct it will be...</div><div><br></div><div>A few hilly and quite complicated long-short loops round the village, before returning home for Tight's birthday cake on the picnic tables. We sang her happy birthday in the hash style, and I seemed to get lots of stick for, I'm not sure what!! The candles wouldn't light, but Spocky saved the day by turning the lighter on!! And then offered a blow job, or something similarly smutty, to Tight.</div><div><br></div><div>Brillo was supposed to make it, but only got as far as the Spoons in Newton Abbot!!</div><div><br></div><div>Next week is the Christmas Hash in Exminster, meeting at the Royal Oak. Come suitably festively dressed for the trail!! Please can everyone attending the meal take a lateral flow test within 24 hours of the meal (and only turn up if its negative!!).&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Finally, there will be some awards, including trail of the year. Troy and Minibar were super keen to pay their subs, but they're not on the spreadsheet so count as visitors in my book!&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>A great trail in quite a small patch of land today, with 4 long short splits. I clocked up 3.2 miles, so that makes up for all the recent 6 mile-ers. And in the hash circle, Rambo appeared from the wrong direction, and Speedy got a down down for his 17th birthday.</div><div><br></div><div>Next week's trail is from The Lawns car park, The Drive, Bishopsteignton:&nbsp;</div><div>https://maps.app.goo.gl/reHkKstUfQ35f6vJ6</div><div><br></div><div>And next week will be there last chance to book your place on the Xmas lunch at the Royal Oak, Exminster on the 19th December. We circled up and waited for the Bitz's to arrive, which they eventually did, with Spocky blaming XBitz, and Son of the Bitz blaming himself.&nbsp; The hares told us about the multimedia and multicoloured trail, and Dark Lord explained that he'd used sawdust on the windiest weekend of the year.&nbsp;<div><br><div>The trail took us past one of last night's drunks, across Topsham Road, then heading up stream to Salmon Pool bridge and Duckes Meadow. From there, the longs ran over the river, back past the Double Locks to Countess Weat, and to the car park at the bottom of King George V playing fields. A sweetie stop there, photo below, with the first showing Spocky and Wide pulling their tummies in, and the second photo relaxed!</div><div><br></div><div>Then we were soon heading back up to Topsham Road, and the longs up Ludwell Valley towards Pynes Hill, then back along the valley bottom towards home.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>In the circle the hares were thanked for their great trail, and there was discussion of sweaty cracks, pegging and glory holes.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>We don't know where next week's trail is, but it's laid by Coffin and Emelda!&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>On on, and don't forget to choose your Xmas meal via the form at https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=DQSIkWdsW0yxEjajBLZtrQAAAAAAAAAAAAN__oGKxURUNU1YUU4xTzBSNlFFT1dVNk0yWUxPU1I2Qi4u</div><div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-JzTr-CowB-I/YaOIXIwLrdI/AAAAAAAAjoc/0aHUhqpNNCgkV6KP_3IyG8GL3t_2fwOiACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1638107226960942-0.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-JzTr-CowB-I/YaOIXIwLrdI/AAAAAAAAjoc/0aHUhqpNNCgkV6KP_3IyG8GL3t_2fwOiACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1638107226960942-0.png" width="400"> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-td2u6Wybzoo/YaOIWfo2LzI/AAAAAAAAjoY/HtU-x7jzp54h28vkptwouWJ27IdGHYiEACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1638107224107681-1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-td2u6Wybzoo/YaOIWfo2LzI/AAAAAAAAjoY/HtU-x7jzp54h28vkptwouWJ27IdGHYiEACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1638107224107681-1.png" width="400"> </a></div></div></div>Alastair Hibbinshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11262741661505290421noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873293245506806577.post-64271376537978583252021-11-27T15:58:00.001+00:002021-11-27T16:03:08.570+00:00Autum Gathering at Slapton -19-22nd November 2021A great weekend and fantastic weather at FSC Start Bay. The what3words location seemed to have done the trick as we met successfully at a crossroads. Happy Snapper suggested we circled up on the nicely cut patch of just off the road (the green!).&nbsp; Spocky led the pack in a Remembrance Sunday commemoration of the contribution of servicemen and women in conflicts.<div>&nbsp;&nbsp;<div>Then we were off, together at first, down the road alongside the golf course, before the shorts went off right, while the longs continued down and down and down, nonstop along the road for about 2 miles! We met the hare perhaps where we could go no lower,&nbsp; giving us directions on to a track at which point we climbed slightly to the village of Luton for the sweetie stop. We were greeted there by a snappy dog behind a gate, so we had to hide to stop it barking. A lady came out to see what was going on, and then wanted to take her car out. She directed us where stand out of the way, and Hot Lips offered to help her reverse out. Not sure what she thought of that as she's probably been doing it for decades, and XBitz didn't think much of his offer either, shouting "sexist pig!!".</div><div><br></div><div>After about 15 minutes the rest of the back markers arrived, we had the hash flash (taken by Happy Snapper) and we were off again. Past The Elizabethan and up a very steep and long road towards home. The longs had a bit of a detour across the old airfield.</div><div><br></div><div>In the circle, the hare nearly got a down down for passing breweries and pubs without stopping, but it went to Hot Lips for his sexist remarks!</div><div><br></div><div>Next week we're at Slapton FSC Start Bay for the Autumn Gathering.</div><div><br></div><div>On on</div><div>Stix</div><div><br></div><div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-knkSyVWxCJw/YZEnpxXbkLI/AAAAAAAAjUo/HsXRn5U1H4cITXOB9idKNgKVl7Fc-PJ8wCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1636902821733783-0.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-knkSyVWxCJw/YZEnpxXbkLI/AAAAAAAAjUo/HsXRn5U1H4cITXOB9idKNgKVl7Fc-PJ8wCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1636902821733783-0.png" width="400"> </a></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-RdH2ak8y9lQ/YZEnpVq5-AI/AAAAAAAAjUk/zyG4bXqdtjQDlqPDlzu-q9Y0aQDE2412QCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1636902818889015-1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-RdH2ak8y9lQ/YZEnpVq5-AI/AAAAAAAAjUk/zyG4bXqdtjQDlqPDlzu-q9Y0aQDE2412QCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1636902818889015-1.png" width="400"> </a></div><br></div></div></div>Alastair Hibbinshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11262741661505290421noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873293245506806577.post-31629057563902735312021-11-07T18:41:00.001+00:002021-11-07T18:41:10.122+00:00Updated City of Exeter H3 hash diaryThe hash diary has been updated: <br>Nov 14, 2021 11:00AM <br>City of Exeter Hash, Little Haldon, string.astounded.fidgeted <br> <br>See <a href="http://cityofexeterh3.org.uk/p/hash-diary.html">http://cityofexeterh3.org.uk/p/hash-diary.html</a> for full details <br>On On <br>City of Exeter H3Alastair Hibbinshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11262741661505290421noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873293245506806577.post-39372072370841205742021-11-07T15:34:00.001+00:002021-11-07T15:36:03.500+00:00AGPU - Exminster - Bollards & Rocky - 7 November 2021A trail around the Minster today, hared by Bollards and Rocky. The long was about 4 miles taking us around the houses and lanes of the village. A sweetie stop on the Bowling Green (otherwise know as the quiet, reflective are, at least before we arrived), and then an On Down to the Oak for the AGPU.<div><br></div><div>At the AGPU, Spocky took all the credit for all the good stuff, and blamed all the bad stuff on the minions ;-). Everyone was voted in for another year, so Spocky as GM, me as On Sex, Tight as Hash Haberdash and Hare Raiser, Speedy as Sheriff and Bollards as Hash Cash. Subs remain the same as last year (£20/£10). The Awards will be a reduced affair given the cost of enscribing the names, and the Xmas hash will be at today's venue, the Royal Oak.</div><div><br></div><div>On on to next week, at Little Haldon, just before the golf course on the way to Teignmouth.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0uKE0t1OtYE/YYfx7c6YExI/AAAAAAAAjTA/8pQyPHFHOscXt7DwVywJMibSVmDo0IUiwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1636299242966676-0.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0uKE0t1OtYE/YYfx7c6YExI/AAAAAAAAjTA/8pQyPHFHOscXt7DwVywJMibSVmDo0IUiwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1636299242966676-0.png" width="400"> </a></div>Sweetie Stop<br><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XBy8nGEugUY/YYfx6qSgTFI/AAAAAAAAjS8/KG7CBPRv4MYzAhzSJ-bys2r_p_nuUcoEQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1636299240104400-1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XBy8nGEugUY/YYfx6qSgTFI/AAAAAAAAjS8/KG7CBPRv4MYzAhzSJ-bys2r_p_nuUcoEQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1636299240104400-1.png" width="400"> </a></div>Son of the Bitz persuading Rocky to dance</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-JTHoPCvmR_I/YYfx59w6tBI/AAAAAAAAjS4/yN2ANdcMENAhGxZkCb3_xX9QJ8RgY6fmwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1636299237238800-2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-JTHoPCvmR_I/YYfx59w6tBI/AAAAAAAAjS4/yN2ANdcMENAhGxZkCb3_xX9QJ8RgY6fmwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1636299237238800-2.png" width="400"> </a></div>Drinking coffee... There was me (Stix), Bollards and Speedy, our hare (Drop Off), Mad Max, Woodpecker, Rambo, Happy Snapper, Dark Lord and Humpty, and Fruity Bitz making an appearance!<div><br></div><div>Unfortunately Bloody Mary was unable to lay the trail with Drop Off, so a big thanks to him for taking on the job. Unfortunately I can't say too much about the trail because we got lost on the long, about 1.5 miles in! Up to that point it had been in and out of the woods and a good few slippery slopes to negotiate as the rain continued. Lots of checking and I got it wrong most of the time.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>But it was when we got close to Uphams, we (Bollards, Speedy, Happy Snapper and I) got very confused with last week's marks! It was all Boots' fault! We saw a mark into the woods, but couldn't find anything after. Apparently the trail went up the track towards the Model Aircraft car park, before looping back to the rest of the shorts. We decided to head back the way we came in the hope of finding the shorts, but by the time we found the long-short split again, it was 12.00. So we headed for home, missing the sweetie stop (and the hash flash given Happy Snapper was with us) and arriving home about 15 minutes before the main part of the pack. Rambo turned up another 20 after that!!</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks again to Drop Off for what I imagine was an excellent trail!</div><div><br></div><div>Next week we're at the The Imperial, New N Rd, Exeter EX4 4AH, UK (<a href="https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en-GB&amp;q=The%20Imperial%2C%20New%20N%20Rd%2C%20Exeter%20EX4%204AH%2C%20UK" class="menu-link" target="_blank">map</a>).&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Advance notice: the following week it's the AGPU (AGM) at the Royal Oak in Exminster.</div><div><br></div><div>Hope to see you at the On Inn afterwards,!!</div><div>On on&nbsp;</div><div>Stix</div><div><br></div>Alastair Hibbinshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11262741661505290421noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873293245506806577.post-14476815337312506322021-10-17T14:28:00.001+01:002021-10-17T14:35:42.831+01:00#1020 Uphams Plantation - Boots - 17th October 2021<div>This week's trail started off with a sealed envelope because our hare had not returned. Puss passed the envelope to Spocky to reveal two pens and two pieces of paper, and a puzzle to solve. Spocky took one team, Tampa the other, and while we got the message, (it wa a live trail, one and on, fishhooks were 10 - not that we found any!) both teams managed to take far too long and made a right mess of it. Boots later told us that he had tried it on the scouts, And it only took them 5 minutes. Not sure what they&nbsp; made of the message about long shorts etc though!</div><div><br></div><div>So we set off rather late, with a long-short, and a muddy one too with a steep hill for fun as well. A pretty hilly trail up through the woods, and a nice long long that sent us to Stowford Cross (next week's venue) and back.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Then it was not long to the sweetie stop, where Mad Max was sitting down, but the shorts were missing and the sweets were suspended in a bag above the pond. But Speedy saved the day after some bullying from me.&nbsp; Boots and Spocky went back to find the walkers, while Tampa, Max, me and Speedy enjoyed the sweets, but we didn't touch the carrot! (Boots didn't have any vegetarian sweets). Then we decided to put them back, which Speedy did. Then Tampa decided he wanted some more, so Speedy got them again and we filled the bag with stones, as a special suprise for the shorts. But Spocky returned with Boots' bag and phone, and told us that the shorts had gone to the wrong place and weren't coming! We told him that he had to get the sweets because each of us had a reason why we couldn't... E.g. speedy had an ingrowing toenail. He refused. So Speedy had to go back in yet again to get the bag of stones!! Meanwhile Spocky was starting to leave a few messages on Boots' phone - see here <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/cityofexeterh3/permalink/6402075593197004/">https://www.facebook.com/groups/cityofexeterh3/permalink/6402075593197004/</a></div><div><br></div><div>Anyway after all that palava, we continued with the trail, where Speedy managed to send us all the wrong way, and then he and Tampa decided not to follow the trail. Spocky eventually found the right route (still recording messages) and fortunately we all found each other again just around the corner.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Soon we were on home, with a down down to Speedy for all his failings and stupidity!!</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks to Boots for an enjoyable 5 mile jaunt. Late as usual!&nbsp;<div>Being first there, we were able to enjoy the usual car park shenanagins, made even more exciting by a particularly steep drop causing some grating of undercarriages!&nbsp;</div><div>Bollards and Rambo disappeared into the bushes, separately I must add, to water the plants. Meanwhile Hayden the dog made a fuss because he wanted to keep an eye on everyone.</div><div>Our hare promised a short trail, with little long-short splits, so small that you'd need a magnifying glass. It was also suitable for bikes - Tampa had brought two (for the grandchildren).&nbsp;</div><div>We headed off, and there were soon calls of "Briony, Briony"... Pearl deserves punishment for that.</div><div>There were certainly at least two tiny long-short splits, where the pack was separated for just a few seconds! With a loop at the start for the longs before heading to the furthest point from the car park in the field around the castle, before returning for a sweetie stop and the viewpoint.&nbsp;</div><div>Then across the road alongside the woods, before looping up and around the bank of trees, featuring an near-vertical climb.&nbsp;</div><div>On home, within an hour, and making up for last week's marathon!!</div><div>Thanks to Wide for setting a trail when no one else could!&nbsp;</div><div>On on to (They don't like it) Uphams plantation on Woodbury Common next week, hared by Boots.</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-E-FbbgQ8Zp8/YWLqaTLtwsI/AAAAAAAAjF8/k_rRsO4MMp8ZSDsHa86Aymr8_x-j007ugCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1633872431470897-0.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-E-FbbgQ8Zp8/YWLqaTLtwsI/AAAAAAAAjF8/k_rRsO4MMp8ZSDsHa86Aymr8_x-j007ugCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1633872431470897-0.png" width="400"> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-pdJTRb3QYm4/YWLqLpPDJgI/AAAAAAAAjF4/aSoHa3FV73o9-TiCEYnt7J7RdB_GkT10wCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1633872421482843-1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-pdJTRb3QYm4/YWLqLpPDJgI/AAAAAAAAjF4/aSoHa3FV73o9-TiCEYnt7J7RdB_GkT10wCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1633872421482843-1.png" width="400"> </a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br><div><br></div></div>Alastair Hibbinshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11262741661505290421noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873293245506806577.post-10194474362822882402021-10-04T19:45:00.006+01:002021-10-04T19:47:18.299+01:00Updated City of Exeter H3 hash diaryThe hash diary has been updated: <br>Oct 17, 2021 11:00AM <br>City of Exeter Hash, Uphams Plantation, Boots <br> <br>See <a href="http://cityofexeterh3.org.uk/p/hash-diary.html">http://cityofexeterh3.org.uk/p/hash-diary.html</a> for full details <br>On On <br>City of Exeter H3Alastair Hibbinshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11262741661505290421noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873293245506806577.post-14932738701489159702021-10-03T15:38:00.001+01:002021-10-03T15:38:16.225+01:00Chez Bitz - Spockybitz - 3 Oct 2021<div>There were "issues" with today's trail, so our hare admitted at the opening circle. But being a Spocky trail, it was always going to be the best of the year.</div><div><br></div><div>Son of the Bitz did a little opening speech to welcome us to his house, and had also put some "This Way" signs to direct us in. Not that it helped Hot Lips who zoomed past the entrance.</div><div>A 6.5 mile trail for the longs that took us around the newest bits of the Cranbrook building site, before heading across London Road into the field for a long short split (that Bloody Mary and Bollards did twice by accident) and the sweety stop. This was only about of a third of the way round the trail, as it continued into Rockbeare, around some woodland and another long loop, and then all the way to Rockbeare Manor.</div><div>As the rain began to fall we started to head back towards home, along a lane that took us all the way back to London Road, of course with a fishhook towards the end for those that were beginning to stretch ahead and looking forward to some shelter! Then along the Straight and back along Southbrook Lane to get home.</div><div>A great trail with lots of virgin hash territory from our GM.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>We don't have a hare for next week, so there is currently no trail. Please message Tight if you can help with any dates... We are really struggling to find hares at the moment. Exeter Chiefs we're playing, so we thought we'd cycle to Sandy Park and lay the second half of the trail up to Pynes Hill, and then the first part back to Sandy Park. Turns out that Sandy Park was almost exactly half way round, so the sweety stop was optimally positioned there! Speedy wasn't very pleased with me marking a big SS on the ground and hiding a bag of sweets in the hedge just as the fans were gathering. But it was all still there for the trail!<div><br></div><div>So despite parking on the edge of Ludwell Valley Park, we didn't use much of it. Blobby was happy as this means he can use the area for his next hash! The trail was basically a loop around Tesco's and IKEA, and certainly took in some paths we haven't used for a long time.</div><div><br></div><div>Then a few of us went back to the Royal Oak in Exminster for a beer and food afterwards, and to see and thank Speedy for the trail.</div><div><br></div><div>Next week we're at the Bitz's, Southbrook Lane near Cranbrook</div><div>https://maps.app.goo.gl/qFBWReNmEAoMVXWE6</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3wVIZDD6i_o/YVCEnbCqY9I/AAAAAAAAi8c/jhuwhGdxZ70iPe3rJJR4XgVGXHySKiOJACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1632666779143838-0.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3wVIZDD6i_o/YVCEnbCqY9I/AAAAAAAAi8c/jhuwhGdxZ70iPe3rJJR4XgVGXHySKiOJACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1632666779143838-0.png" width="400"> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-512vxjprGk8/YVCEmmv6bJI/AAAAAAAAi8Y/vD40sVtjJHgSbVFrEo3aYUO4vr1aDiKKgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1632666776193669-1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-512vxjprGk8/YVCEmmv6bJI/AAAAAAAAi8Y/vD40sVtjJHgSbVFrEo3aYUO4vr1aDiKKgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1632666776193669-1.png" width="400"> </a></div><br></div><div><br></div>Alastair Hibbinshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11262741661505290421noreply@blogger.com
