#1064 University of Exeter - Stix and Bollards - 14 Aug 2022

Another scorching trail - Bollards and I had laid it in a bit of a rush and now it was time to do it all again! We welcomed visitors Turned On and Seaman Staines from Wessex, and it was good to see the return of Mooner. The regulars were few are far between, with only the Bitz's and Sorepoint & Paperwork (still walking) making up the numbers.

I thought the trail was about 3.5 miles, it turned out that the shorts did less than three, with Spocky doing all the longs, clocking up over 5.

We nearly lost our visitors on the first long short, and the trail took us along Hooper Valley.  The second long short that looped back and made us do it all again, nearly killed us anyway. Maybe Bollards was right when she told me it wasn't needed on a day like today!

Then we headed up through the university grounds, where Spocky was there only one to do the third long, and then long slog up Pennsylvania Road. We headed left back on to the campus at the to end of the lakes not far from where the new student housing is being built. Then a narrow path up through the woods to somewhere I've never been in 29 years of being at the university: a field overlooking campus and looking across the valley to Exwick. This was the sweetie stop, but forgot to tell Bollards that is hidden the sweets... Whoops.

The second and shorter half of the trail took us towards Belvidere meadows where everyone but Spocky did the final long. Then along the back of the sports fields, past the Physics tower (where I work!) and made our way home through the trees. We sat in the shade in front the Washington Singer building, before a few of us retired to the Imperial for a drink and some food
