Probably the best hash weather so far this year with the trail starting at the Mamil car park (Google it, if you don't know...) in Starcross. Bollards didn't know where to look. Brillo arrived by train before the pack started off, and didn't 'get stuck' in Newton Abbot in the pub.
We started with a long-short split with the longs going back towards the village, but a couple of us had to make use of the public conveniences on the way. A loop around the houses and past the allotments before rejoining the shorts, who'd come direct from the start. Quite a hilly lane and Wide and Speedy had got themselves a long way ahead. "Is that Wide over there?" I asked Hotlips because I could see someone running in a field on the distance. "Yes, you can catch him up... if you go straight on". That would be cheating, and I didn't, instead enduring the long loop instead.
Then the long trail took us around the back of Kenton, up by the side of the church, across the main road towards Powderham, and along the lane behind the village beck to the village hall and down to Powderham Farm Shop.
There we had the sweetie stop, and with a little bit of encouragement, Wide, Speedy and I popped into the shop to get a beer and cider. Then Spocky appears, with the rest of the pack assuming that we've all got to the loo. But, shock, horror, Brillo misses out... . I couldn't get my watch to work to pay as it was stuck on tracking mode, and Speedy said he had no money,so Wide steps into pay... Honestly I couldn't get it to work! Then Wide buys Speedy's too ... and then Speedy decides that he does have money! Thanks Wide!! Thankfully the shop assistant had a bottle opener!
With bottles to drink from, that was the end of the running, bit we still managed to catch the pack up, as they worked their way back towards Starcross, across a field, and back along the lane that follows the railway.
In the circle, we named Hotlips' son, Chuckles, with Speedy marking some satanic symbol on his forehead rather than an H. Then, despite fierce competition from Brillo, I got the down down for the something or other.
