#1188 Forest Gate, Ashclyst Forest - Howlin' Wilf - 5 Jan 2025

We’l start at the beginning where it seems right to do so we gathered in the middle of the Ashclyst Forest and believe it or not, although torrential rain for the last 24 hours we managed to pick the only two hours didn’t rain. Just the drive up was treacherous with what seemed like a river flowing down each side of the road, the river clyst flooding the fields,  we will come to that later.

I gathered us around there was only a small bunch. We listen to Wilf’s instructions about the trail and off we went, it took a moment to get our bearings as to which way we were going but we eventually found our way through the soggy wet paths.

Now Ashclyst is known as the muddiest place on earth and it didn’t disappoint with mud occasionally up to our knees and water easily up to our ankles in places but it didn’t dampen the spirits and we had a good run around the paths and the undergrowth.

We promised some virgin Trail which we soon found that it was great through the undergrowth. I don’t know how the hare managed to find it. By the stage. I don’t think there was a dry shoe or an unmuddied knee. I know Rosie the dog that was caked in mud .

Looking like drowned rats at the sweetie stop, I eventually managed to catch up with everyone having spent most of the trail trying to speed the dog up

We were now 2/3 of the way in and still it hadn’t rained. We thought we’d got away with it. We circled back up at the for beers and crisps at the end and someone noted that Woodpecker‘s car was on the other side of the road. We later found   out that he did make it to car park didn’t find his way on the trail.

So back to the rivers of water flowing down the side of the road, unfortunately Happy snapper went through one of them and burst attire luckily Spocky was on hand to help her change your tyre.

You’re a hero Spooky bitz.
