Hash Coronacircle #23: regular hashing to return

For anyone that was unable to attend the meeting today and keen to see a permanent return to hashing, then you'll be pleased to know that we decided that regular City of Exeter hashing will return from next week, with a trail from Uphams Plantation on Woodbury Common.
We will continue to review how the hash is working, and the numbers attending, and we will be flexible about adapting over the coming weeks and months.
Hares are advised to keep trails to open countryside and avoid narrow paths. Sometimes this will mean that fishhooks should be avoided. One and on trails are likely to be the best method for laying. Given the more limited availability of venues and the extra effort required from hares, we may not hash every week, but Tight is now looking for hares so please volunteer!
All hashers are still asked to register in advance of the trail wherever possible, and once numbers exceed the legal limit of 30, any additional hashers will be asked not to participate. Registration must be via the online form (https://tiny.cc/HashReg, or QR code below) however those without smart phones or online access can ask Stix to register them on their behalf on arrival, or via email/Facebook (subject to maximum numbers) (you'll also need to confirm that you have read the guidelines, https://tiny.cc/CoEH3).
The simple rule of maintaining a distance of 3m on the trail between members of different households will be maintained. And don't forget to BYO beer and sweets for the time being.
There's a spectrum of feelings regarding hashing in the current health emergency, and it goes without saying that we all should be respectful of the opinions of others. Hopefully we will, in time, see the return of all members of our hashing family, but not all will be back straight away (especially those in quarantine!!)

Hash meeting

Just a reminder that tomorrow (Sunday) there will be no hash trail, bit we will be having our 23rd Hash Coronacircle to discuss the two trial hashes and decide whether we move to a permanent return to register hashing.
It'll be the usual link

Hash meeting

HHI All,
Thanks for all your comments and they have been all positive to start the hash backup in September and none against. There will be fine tuning to be done but all in all the system in place worked very well. I will sort out an agenda for Sunday's meeting as there is still some issues to sort out. Thanks to all that Trialed the Trails and the information received about those Trails Trialed.

We have a second trial hash this weekend from Four Firs, Woodbury Common.

Please don't forget to register if you intend to come. You need to register even if you  attended last weekend.

We must keep records of who attends in case we need to help NHS Test and Trace.

Hash 979 (YES - A REAL ONE!) - Joney's Cross - Spocky - 16th August 2020

For the first time since 15th March, we've had a hash - remember Wide's trail around Chudleigh? Those were the days when all we had to worry about was indivually wrapped sweets...

And today would have been our 1000th hash!  Instead, it was our 1000th hash gathering (if you include all the 22 Hash Coronacircles).

Spocky was our hare, alreasdy claiming it to be the best trail of the year.  But first he explained that he had not changed the nature of the trail from what we normally expect, apart from the fact that there would be no fish-hooks, and that we were to keep a distance of 3 metres from each other during the trail.

We welcomed our visitors, from Hong Kong, Wai Chee Kok and Poon tang - in the UK on holiday with friends for a month. They were obviously fitter than most of us, and their home-hash were celebrating their own 1000th hash last week!

The trail was quite short, but didn't seem it. Everyone moaning about how little they'd done for the last 4 and a half months.  We all had a lot to catch up on during the trail, but it was so difficult to breath, never mind speak. At least the weather was cooler than a week ago!  And there was some shiggy underfoot.

Of course, Tampa turned up late - making a total of 18 of us on trail.  Spocky kept the pack together well (but not too close) with a good number of long shorts, and a good open space for the regroup.  Infact, that was the first time that I saw Tampa! No sweets for (most of) us of course. Actually we were the only ones who'd rememebred to pack some, so I enjoyed my strawberry laces!

Lots of normal people out on the trail - although it could have just been the same family that we ran past mutiple times! Anyway, they seemed very friendly.

And then a socially distanced closing circle - clearly we need to better remind everyone to bring beer and snacks - but Bollards and I enjoyed ours!

In the circle we discussed how well we thought it worked, and it was overwhelmingly positive.  The 3-metre rule was thought not to get in the way of hashing, and was preferred to any system of pods. Tampa has agreed to lay a second trial trail next week using the same 3 metre guidance from Four Firs (Woodbury Common).

For those not on Facebook, these were the comments after the event:

Spocky: "We I think it's safe to say that was a successful trial Hash.Very simple rules: keep 3 meters away from any other hasher that you didn't arrive with. Let the hasher/s in front know if you wish to pass and do so quickly and keeping as much distance that is safely possible. For Hares: No fishhooks or back checks. Try to keep to open areas where possible. Try to avoid gates and styles.

Tampa will be Laying another hash next week to see if it was just my fantastic trail laying."

Tight: "My main concerns before were.

1. If we get put in set groups and have to stay with them, what if I am in a group with very fast runners and can’t keep up.
2. No sweetie stop. As I do like the sweets but more importantly I like the reassurance of making sure everyone is there.
3. If we mess it up it will give hashing a bad name.
What happened.
We could run / walk at our own pace but I could only be closer than 3 metres to Wide.
There was a sweetie stop but without sweets. Yes I did count up everyone even thought I didn’t have a clipboard on me. Stix already had a far more sophisticated track and trace register anyway.
We didn’t mess up, Spocky explained the rules, we all kept to them.
Great to see you all. X

I've updated the Hash Guidelines and Risk Assessment. I have also set up another registration form for next week.

Hash Coronacircle #22

Next Sunday we have our post-lockdown trial hash pencilled in on Woodbury Common (hared by Spocky), but we'll have a circle tomorrow for a chat or discuss the restart.

https://meet.jit.si/hashing Sunday 11.05

If you are keen to come to the trial, then you should register in advance. This is for three reasons: for record keeping (Test and Trace), to ensure that we do not break the law (maximum 30), and to confirm that you have read the Guidelines and Risk Assessment. The link to register is https://forms.gle/8aemYqQkX6RWoxF68.

In case you missed the news, our Hash Insurance is now active again, and South Hams and Kirton have restarted. But there are obviously very mixed feelings about a restart with strong views that it's still too early.  I hope our trial will enable City of Exeter to make a sensible judgement about whether hashing over the coming months is 'safe', practical and enjoyable. But ultimately we will vote with our (shiggy) feet of course!

Hash insurance reinstated, hash trial penciled in.

From swh3.info:

With the SWASH insurance now restored from August 1st, some packs locally are looking to return to hashing in whatever form they can. Others are not wanting to compromise and are waiting until we are able to run as a pack again. In any case, please keep an eye on the Diary for updates and use the links below to ensure it's all undertaken safely and within the Governments guidelines.
Please find the attached GUIDE which it is hoped will assist packs with what should be considered in order to keep the risk of infection to a minimum. This is just for guidance for now, so please keep an eye on these pages for updates on the lifting of restrictions. Keep safe and keep in touch. Buzby

City of Exeter's trial hash is penciled in for 16th August from Woodbury Common. Given the rapidly changing situation, a final decision will be made during w/c 10th August, and the venue details will only be released to those that pre-register (for track and trace, and to ensure that legal gathering size is not exceeded).

It's Rocky's birthday this Sunday, and I hope he'll make an appearance at the circle on the day he becomes a teenager!
And for some fun (!) we can review the guidelines that Child Catcher and I put together for the trial, return to hashing, on 16 August. There's a link to the guideline and risk assessment documents below.
