#1270 Ellerhayes Bridge - Sorepoint & Paperwork - 9 August 2026

Another hot one, but at least we knew there was a river to cool off in at the end! The trail was marked in fine sawdust... We were warned not to follow the "inch square" wood chippings. I ended up doing nearly 6 miles on a trail that was quite demanding in terms of the hills! The marks were extremely difficult to find given they were the same colour as the scorched grass. Lots of checking to do too. Following the longs, I think I only ever saw the shorts at the regroup! Humpty was complaining about the heat but still managed to be front running.  And of course we ended up on the little river beach to cool off, but a few of the shorts missed it 😢

Down downs went to the hares, Pearl for pissing on the sweetie stop, and Mouthful for quote of the week "are you going down, Ju". Not sure who Ju is anyway...

Next week we're at Kingskerswell for a BBQ with Zoot and Hot lips.

#1269 Belle Vue, Great Plantation, Liverton - Mouthful and Nobutt - 1 Aug 2026

A extremely dry trail around the muddiest place in Devon. Nearly 5 miles for the longs, with at least two of longs being ha ha's! The 11 of us on trail (Happy Snapper taking the photograph), kept together well, and apparently we agreed not to do the final long. Happy Snapper, Wilf and I must have missed that memo, and so Mouthful had to come along with us. We passed the Star Inn at 11.56, but by 12.02, they still weren't open, and there was a queue, so got back on trail.

#1267 King George V playing fields - Speedy - 19 July 2026

A speedy trail with visitor's and a pub stop. There pub wasn't quite open though. And then Paperwork needed a pee. Down downs for the visitors for not bringing money on the hash, to Speedy for graduating, and for Tight for talking about parish councils an the way round. And for me too for accident putting apple juice in my own beer instead of the down down one.

A very nice hash today bare in mind the heat, amazing views and perfect timing and excellently layed, loads of long shorts splits and a few fishhooks. Big thanks to cant tell for laying this hash. SOTB

#1263 Saddle Tor - No Butt and Mouthful - 14 June 2026

The Ashburton H3 take over

Tight, Rosie and I arrived at the Saddle tor car park to find No Butt and Mouthfull just finishing their trail. 

A few moments later Cheesy Chips, Vampire and Miles arrived shortly followed by Tesco’s finest and Dicksack, had we arrived on the wrong day? As we tentatively shuffled around to make a circle, Whizz joined us making the take over complete. 

We headed off up Saddle tor, the first of only 2 promised hills, what a stunning view from the top looking down towards the Teign estuary, I think I could see my house. 

Across the moor, over granite boulders, passed sheep and cattle, lots of cattle and a few ponies we wound out way to Emsworthy mire, a lone Cuckcoo was heard, while the Willow Warblers, Chiffchaffs and Stonechats told us to get off their land and keep moving. 

The sweety stop was in a water meadow, we were surrounded by Lesser March orchids and Cottongrass, the silence was deafening. 

By this point we had done 3 of the promised 2 hills with a 4th looming large ahead of us, but we had no choice but to climb. 

We made our way through to maze of dry stone walls, I saw a Common lizard basking in the sun, it saw me and ran to hide. More cows, more hill but so worth it, the scenery was amazing, we forget this is only 20 mins from most of us. 

Back to the cars, out came the beers and crisps, shortly followed by an audience of ever inquisitive ponies who had to be shoo’d away.

#1264 Four Firs, Woodbury Common - Belltoll - 21 June 2026

They longest day of the year, and while it wasn't then longest trail, it felt a bit like it in the sun and heat. Just a small pack for Father's Day, with a few of us still recovering from the Prem Final yesterday. Mini bar arrived on his mountain bike, which was probably the fastest way there given how bad the traffic was, especially with the road closed at Woodbury. 

The hare told us the trail was short if you took the shorts, and longer if you didn't. Mini bar really should have got a down down, firstly for falling off his bike while attempting one of the steep gravelly hills, and second for the conversation with Can't Tell, which went something like 'What's your name", "Can't Tell", "Well does it begin with A?"!

The regroup was at Gibraltar Rock, as we watched a BA page circle around us. This came just after a really shiggy bit by the sumps, but thankfully there was a lovely clear stream to wash in afterwards. Chardonnay enjoyed a dip in the sumps too

A fantastic trail from our hares from Joneys Cross, and Hansel's version lay, with lots of the trail relatively dry compared to what we normally expect in this area! 

#1258 Exeter Arena - Can't Spell - May 10 2026

A great virgin lay from Can't Bell. A perfect hour's trail and it really was exactly 2.5 miles as anticipated by the hare, and a little over 4 for the longs. Lots of hills and beautiful countryside just a stone's throw from Exeter.

A beautiful trail from Wide following the River Teign, with a river crossing. And an amazing tea party with sandwiches and scones afterwards from Tight.

#1255 Exeter Quay - Stix - 19 April 2026

My (Stix's) birthday celebrations. And I couldn't be bothered to show up at the beginning! I was still about a mile out! Thanks to Plympton H3 for coming after a busy weekend for them, which definitely swelled our umbers and speed! Good to see Buzby and Screech after the trail too!

Oh, and I think I may never left my phone un attended!
