Newton St Cyres - Groucho - 12th March 2017

A quick please before the words: Hares urgently required for April 9th, 23rd and 30th.   Please volunteer ASAP.
As normal for “Grizzly Sunday” there was a small turnout. We considered having a minutes silence for those partaking while we waited for Woodpecker to arrive, but instead Groucho just put some easy to follow marks at the beginning of the trail.
We crossed the A377 and headed into a ford to get our feet wet before looping up a footpath to cross the A377 again. At some point we all managed to miss a fish-hook, but there were plenty of others for the non-athletes to endure. We looped around a field and then crossed back over the A377 heading through lanes and out onto open fields. Eventually, we found our way to a sweetie stop on a bridge over a murky looking river. More lanes followed before we arrived at the Arboretum via a graveyard. “I didn’t know that this existed” seemed to be a common comment as we wound our way though. CC took an unfortunate tumble and turned her ankle. It took her a while to get up, but she managed to hobble back to the car via a shortcut (she was very brave), while the remainder of the pack headed up towards the station and through a housing estate before arriving back at the pub.  [Words by Bollards]
