Four Firs, Woodbury Common - Tampa - 23rd May 2021

Another wet one with week, on the first trail where hugging was allowed. Not that anyone hugged me 😥. And it was run number 999!

The first trail where we officially had a sweetie stop and beers afterwards too.
Highlights for me were Twin Peaks calling Bollards 'pure filth', Boots getting a hair band stick in his hair (and Miss Chief telling me that he's allowed to borrow hers), the very exposed and cold sweetie stop, and Twin Peaks attempting to get a 'squirt' of hand sanitizer while Speedy was holding it between his thighs.

The trail wasn't too bad either, taking us on a loop around the common with what seemed like a couple of very long longs. Having been told we were expecting the road crossings at the start by the birthday boy (Tampa), I was disappointed to only have enjoyed two. I want my money back!

Then we gathered underneath Boots' awning for the hash circle, where Speedy took on the role of Sheriff for the first time, highlighting Woodpecker's late arrival.

On on to the 1000th next week which should start from Cranbrook railway station... which unfortunately has been taken over by travellers... Stay tuned in case there is a change!

Upton Pyne - Twin Peaks - 16th May 2021

It absolutely pished it down for today's trail. As usual we didn't set off till ten last and instead enjoyed the rain in the cast park. Twin peaks introduced her helpers, and spent another 10 mins telling us about the trail. It was still raining...

The trail started off with a long loop.  It continued to rain. Through some muddy fields, into a very slippery wood, and down a hill where I needed a wee. Bollards did too. Must be the sound of running water. Then along the lane into Langford. The check was underwater, but the hares directed us into another muddy field and a regroup. By now we were drenched and rather bedraggled.  But it wasn't the sweetie stop... it was looking to be a long trail.

We continued along the edge of fields, up towards home, but we still had a sweetie stop to go, albeit a virtual one... in another muddy field. Stingray was being a human dipstick, standing in the ruts in the field to work out the depth of the water.

Then in to Swamp Land... and Twin Peaks gave us warning that she would not be pulling anyone out.  She admitted this was her favourite bit... Sounded like it was her second home. All swamps have got swamp monsters of course...

Not far then back to home, and it just about stopped raining for a few minutes, and the sun nearly shone.

It was a great trail, so thanks to all the hares.

Next week the hash circle is officially back, since the C19 regulations allow us to socialize in groups of up to 30. So there will be snacks and beers, and hares may provide sweets (probably best still in individual packets)

So on on to Four Firs on Woodbury Common!

Ashclyst Forest - Boots in Puss - 9 May 2021

It was a live trail this week by Boots. He'd left Spocky a present. It was in a box... Which was in another box
Which was in another box
It was the script for Spocky to read before we set off.  Some of us also had fun with the boxes!
The script was:

Hello everyone and welcome to the Hash of The year !!!!! Once again I'm absolutely delighted that Boots has decided to lay a trail, His trails are the best ever, Amazing Trails, no one better. (read like Trump)

Remember back to the last time he laid a live trail and the little note he left for me, and nothing has changed. His trails are still my favourite.

Enough of the Boots Love, the Trail.

It's Laid live, but luckily with the boxes I've got a bit of a lead.

It's One and On

Laid on the Right

A sweetie stop somewhere.

Fishhooks for 12

Might be some L/S splits, But follow the FRB's I'm sure it will all make sense when we've found all the lost people.

Puss and the kids are laying the Walkers / Kids trail,

On On and check it out to the west. (Point in Random Directs until coffin tells you where to go) (or wait for the sunset.).

And then we headed off in one direction, until Damp Patch pointed out that West was the opposite way!

Given the rain yesterday, it was always going to be shiggy. So it was a bit hard going on trail. Plus Boots doesn't necessarily stick to paths, as we found out about 1.5 miles in. Of course he might have just got lost.  Good job he had plenty of flour.  Plenty of brambles and thorns as I found out all to painfully when I managed to get over intertwined around my groin.

We needed a nice long break at the regroup as the kids and Coffin played in the stream.

Can't remember much about the second half of the trail, but of course it was very good, given its trail of the year.  There was however what seemed like a bloomin' long long-split, which was a loop but was all up hill! Not sure how he managed that.

On home soon after that. And we heard news from Spocky about the Autumn Gathering being in November this year (17th), and that the hash circle and beers will be back in a couple of weeks.

On on to next week when we're at Upton Pyne village hall

Core Copse, East Hill Strips - Howlin Wilf - 2 May 2021

Another sunny Sunday and another 30+ pack, with our numbers boosted this week by visitors from Plympton. Spocky arrived eventually, having over slept and then been sat just round the corner trying to work out which car park it was. Boots had his awning up and for a minute I thought he was serving refreshments. And rumours were circulating that there were a couple of birthdays this week.

The trail set off through the woods, unsurprisingly, with a loop at the beginning down and back along a relatively flat path. That was the last level part of the trail!

Oddbitz and Wobblybitz seemed to keep appearing after the rest of us had scrambled down and valley side. They just seemed to out for a regular morning walk!!

We were told that the regroup was two thirds of the way round, and it was EXACTLY! 3 miles in, and what turned out to be 1.5 miles to go. It was a NSS, which meant a Nacho Sandwich Stop for Speedy, who'd brought a frozen chicken sandwich which he was defrosting in his bum bag.

But where was Lilo? We shouted and heard a reply. But it was Son of the Bitz who was yelling down drainage pipe!

On on we continued up another hill, and eventually on home.

There was a bit of waiting round at the end until the walkers appeared, but still no Lilo. Although her car was gone so hope she's ok! We sang hashy burpday to H3 and On, and Itzy Bitz, and then Plympton bu**ered off to do a proper trail.

On on to next week when we're at Ashclyst Forest.
