Wheathill Plantation - Coffin and Imelda - 25 April 2021

It's Annabel's birthday, and all her friends came out to celebrate. 52 of them on today's trail! Probably our biggest turnout in recent times, although there were many newcomers, mostly the parents of Annabel's friends. But the 'normal' hash residents were out in force too, on a amazing Sunday morning.

There was a long and short, and a birthday trail, reserved for the smaller ones (not Twin Peaks) and their mums and dads. Since we all met up for the regroup, that meant we really didn't stray very far from the car park, yet it seemed that I was completely disorientated for most of the trail.

Lots of long loops to give the runners a stretch, which kept the pack together nicely. First we headed down to Squabmoor, Then across the top and heading back via Frying Pans, before a sweetie stop not far (as the crow flies) from home.

At the closing (safety) circle, Annabel got her birthday down down, and we sang her hashy burpday in the usual style. I'm sure all the visitors appreciated that! Then there were shrieks and squeals as the drink was squirted on her friends.

Sorepoint and Rambo managed to miss all this... Paperwork was concerned about how he would get home. Turns out the keys were in our car, but the late finishers were found after a search party was dispatched to the end of the car park!

Kenton - Stix and Rocky - 18th April 2021

Words by Speedy...

Today's run number was 994. It was a lovely sunny day in South Devon. As we arrived at the car park we noticed there was a police officer there we thought we had done something wrong but then we remembered Spocky was coming. Turned out that the police man was a hasher, Chardonnay doing his morning patrol. Definitely raised a few eyebrows amongst the locals when he put his sirens on!!

Today we had the normal pack but we were also joined by Bull Bait, Stingray and Splat for the first time in a year. We had a quick run through Kenton village centre before we went up the hill and came to longshort split. The long did a quick loop and came back just before the starting car park. We were warned that it was going to be hilly trail but I didn't think it was going to be this hilly! In the end I was so tired I just had to walk up the hill the good thing about going up hills you eventually get to go downhill which is easy.

We then ran to a field full of oilseed rape which is a monoculture and it's going to kill all the wildlife in the area - Greta would not be pleased! Then there were about 25000 fish hooks before the sweet stop at a scenic view. Oh yeah, and Spocky had a wee I think.

On to check after the sweet stop and it was back down the mountain before we came to a road followed by another long short, longs through the woods. It was so hot that Rambo took his top off which is good to see again! We walked up a footpath until we came to a fork in the road well that was a long short split. After that it was a straight run at the road back to the car park. When we got back we had some bad news Rambo was missing ( Tampa also wasn't there ). Luckily we found Rambo ( and tama also turned up ).

We sang happy birthday to Stix after the trail in the usual hash style. He drank his own beer and most of it went over his head!

On on to next week when we're at Wheathill Plantation on Woodbury Common.

Joney's Cross, Woodbury Common - Spockeeeeeez-a-good - 11th April 2021

Hello this week it's me speedy writing the words and I'm not actually writing this week I am dictating them using a microphone. So today's run was laid by Spacky at the Joni's cross car park on Woodbury common it was run number 993 which is one more than last week which is 992. Today we were treated by the arrival of Twin Peaks and Mad Max who are practically virgins now due to lockdown. We started in the circle where I asked how long the trail was to which spacky replied an longer than you did last week [he was obviously referencing the fact that I got lost last week] today's was a relatively busy hash with 29 different hashers turning up so the biggest numbers we've had in a while but then it is typically quite busy at this time of year. The trial started with a quick loop followed by a long short split.

After loopy start we eventually got two a very interesting bridge which some people struggled to cross because it's very narrow don't personally blame them specially Bollards because she was having a hangover so particularly hard for her to get across so she had to get down on hands and knees. The lungs then had to go back rounded abit of loopy thing and then they came and the bridge bit again the narrow bridge thing. Then we got to sweet stop where as always we had our individually packed sweeties voted issues course harbaugh's. we then did a quick flash in the forest before we continued our run whereas unfortunately there were some normal people coming past and they saw our flash.

Spooky then sent us on a “unofficial” [he basically forgot to mark it] longshot split well the longs enjoyed a kilometre long run up the road. We then continued on our run on our way back to the car park where we saw some pony horse things we then accidentally also missed a bit, but Spocky claimed “he cut us short to get us back within the hour”. When we when we were back at the circle mischief went and poked spacky in his big fat belly and said “spacky power” as she did it and then there was an argument about who should win trailed the year 2021. All in all it was definitely in my top three trails in 2021. I hope you're ready for next week where it's stixs birthday run from Kenton don't ask me where it is in Kenton because I don't know. PS I haven't proofread any of this cause I was doing it on dictate so if there are any spelling mistakes or errors please comment below thank you very much.

Next week we're at The Traingle, Kenton https://goo.gl/maps/VeRCHypKv8RPAb4e9, for Stix's birthday hash.

Hash Registration

From 18th April, we are no longer asking you to register for every hash.

We have two systems in place that have in recent weeks been used in parallel with the online form to record those participating.  These is the register - taken each week, and the 'hash flash'/photograph.

We also believe that that general Governmental Guidance not to leave home if you have an C19 symptoms is now well understood and everyone is aware to self-assess their own situation.

The online registration has always been voluntary and has not provided a complete record - but we believe that the two methods above will provide a more accurate record.

You will be asked to provide your contact details once for NHS Track and Trace - although if the details you provided have not changed since a previous registration, then there is no need to do that again. However if there are significant changes to the Risk Assessment, Delivery Plan or Hash Guidance documents, you may be asked to repeat this process.

Providing your contact details is not compulsory and I can remove any details from our files on request.

Now that Lateral Flow Tests are available to everyone without charge, please consider collecting kits from you local pharmacy or test centre, or order them online, and test you and your family twice a week https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-campaign-urges-public-to-get-tested-twice-a-week

Haldon (Route 5) - Wide and Tight - 4 April 2021

Second trail of the year!!

Great to be back, and wow... how everyone had aged. Beards have really grown bushy, especially the harriettes. But Spocky's was something else, a hybrid between Ant Middleton (aka Boots) and Hagrid.

We had a pack of 22 and all bursting to get back into 'elite' hashing (not!). We were promised a 5 mile trail with an Easter Egg hunt (Covid safe) at the regroup.

Being Wide's trail, it was never going to be dull. Why use paths when there are thorny, boggy, slippery, steep alternatives? Soon we found ourselves scrambling to the bottom of a valley, along the stream and up the other side. Itzy did a superb job of finding the marks putting us more mature hashers to shame. By this point, Speedy had been too speedy and had missed the check back and found himself doing fish hooks alone in the wrong direction! Never to be seen (on trail) again. Meanwhile the rest of the pack were making their way towards the Easter egg hunt. The FRBs were well ahead, the back markers delayed by Spocky sending them the wrong way... The beard was obviously obscuring his vision.

Thanks to Tight for assigning us all to teams (or should we call them bubbles?!). We all had to search for the coloured egg corresponding to our team. Sweets and novelty Easter items were our reward (I got a carrot!)

Then on on around the trail, and another steep crevice to slip into (oo-er) and up the other side. I took the sliding approach and muddied my undercarriage!

Then it was nearly on home, apart from Bollards and me - she made me do the long  loop... but it was a nice romantic jog in the undergrowth for just the two of us.

Back home by 1 o'clock, and time for a quick beer (personal supply!) before heading home. Great to see everyone again... Looking forward to next week.

Next week, we're at Joneys Cross on Woodbury.
